We offer workshops periodically scheduled at Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley, and custom trainings at your site geared to your specific needs. We also present at many national and regional conferences, including National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and International Reading Association (IRA) conferences. The next three workshops at regional NSTA conferences will be held in: Kansas City, Missouri on October 27, 2010; Baltimore, Maryland on November 10, 2010; and Nashville, Tennessee on December 1, 2010.

Professional Development Opportunities
Three-day workshops at Lawrence Hall of Science, University of California at Berkeley
Attendees receive a free teacher's guide and a free set of student books.
Cost: $430, $395 per person for groups of two or more.
These three day workshops are designed for those who are interested in using the new Seeds of Science/Roots of Reading curriculum for Grades 2–5, and are looking for a better understanding of the Seeds of Science/Roots of Reading philosophy and the benefits of integrating science and literacy. Through the generous support of Delta Education each attendee receives a teacher's guide and a set of student books from the unit of their choice. Topics and activities to be covered:
- Presentation of our approach to integrating science and literacy.
- Firsthand experience with activities from multiple Seeds of Science/Roots of Reading units.
- Review of the student books and the role they serve in supporting inquiry science.
- The benefits of the Teaching Support and Considerations features in the teacher guides and how to implement them.
- Information about effectiveness studies.
- Experience with the Seeds of Science/Roots of Reading assessment system.
Participants are responsible for lodging and travel. Sessions will remain open until filled. As we near the session dates, please call to verify there is space available. We are unable to refund fees for cancellations made less than two weeks in advance.
